Rating Healthy Schools

There are several rating mechanisms which identify and rank healthy schools based on different criteria. Some of the most common rating systems are:

  • The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating SystemŽ is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. More at: www.usgbc.org

  • The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) helps school districts and their design teams bring better performance into the classroom. More at: www.chps.net

  • Here's an interesting article published in the ASHRAE journal, November, 2004 regarding an overview of green building rating systems. This article has been placed here for educational purposes only. www.energycodes.gov
